Applying An Epoxy Coating To Your Garage Floor

There are two great reasons to use an epoxy coating on your garage floor. The first is that it simply protects the raw concrete of your garage floor from damage that accumulates over the years. The second reason to apply an epoxy coating to your garage floor is to hide the ugly oil stains and dirt that might be clinging to your garage floor.

Choosing to coat your garage floors with epoxy paint is generally less expensive than people might assume. Epoxy paint is more often cheaper than some of the other types of garage floor protection available on the market these days. Rubber flooring for your garage can become quite costly depending on the overall size of your garage.

Preparation Is Important When Applying An Epoxy Coating To Your Garage Floor

When you decide that epoxy coating for your garage floor is the best choice for your garage, make sure you take the time and prepare the floor according to the directions of the epoxy paint you choose. The preparation phase of the epoxy coating application on your garage floor is one of the most critical factors that determine the success of the paint job. Poor preparation can leave floors looking a mess as the paint does not adhere correctly to the floors and begins to crack and peel

Generally the first thing that you will need to do is thoroughly sweep out all of the debris, dirt, and dust that have been accumulating in the corners of your garage. It might be necessary to do a second dusting of the floors using a shop vacuum to make sure nothing gets left behind.

Once you are sure that the floors have been rid of debris you will want to use a mop with a concrete cleaner to help prepare the surface for the epoxy coating on the garage floors. If the surface of the garage floor is not completely rid of dirt and grime the epoxy coating on your garage floors will not adhere properly. You will be forced to repeat the process to repair the damage so it is important to spend time during the preparation phase to make sure the floors are properly cleaned.

Once you have the floors cleaned you will need to repair any cracks or damage in the concrete. This can be done with a concrete repair kit available at a hardware store.

Now that the garage floors are cleaned and repaired all you need to do is paint. Apply your primer first and after that has dried for several hours you can apply your epoxy coating to your garage floors.
