Rubber garage flooring is a great choice when picking a method to protect the floor in your garage. The durability alone makes it hard to resist. It is not unusual for rubber garage flooring to last several years longer than even the best garage floor paint.
Buying Rubber Garage Flooring
Rubber garage flooring comes in two basic types. The first type is squares of rubber tile. Rubber tiles are easy enough to lie down and they come in a variety of styles and colors and patterns that let you create a very custom affect on your garage floor.
The second popular type of rubber garage flooring is sold in rolls. Rubber flooring by the roll takes no time at all to install. Just place the roll on the floor and spread it out. Several different patterns and colors are also available in rolled rubber flooring but it is not as customizable as rubber tiles.
Things To Consider When Using Rubber Garage Flooring
Seams are going to be a major factor when choosing to use rubber garage flooring. With rubber tiles you will have hundreds of seams to contend with. Each of these seams could be letting dangerous chemicals seep between which can pool on your garage floor and damage the concrete anyway. Seams are less of a problem with rolls but can still be a problem if the rubber sheets are not aligned properly.
One way to avoid seams with sheets of rubber garage flooring is to overlap the flooring by a few inches where the seam would typically fall. This slightly takes away from the overall appearance or the rubber garage floor but it is certainly better than having the concrete under the floor damaged.
Another thing to considering is installing a clear vinyl layer over top of the rubber garage floor. This is particularly great to do with rubber tiles because it will eliminate many of the hundreds of seams that are exposing the garage floor.
Installing a rubber garage floor also helps to create an anti-skid surface in your garage. Sometimes epoxy paints can create surfaces that are glossy and slippery which makes it potentially harder to walk on if water has been tracked on to the surface.
Many people prefer to use rubber flooring versus epoxy paint because it is extremely easy to install. Most rubber flooring you can simply put down. This allows you to avoid the hard work of cleaning your garage floors before applying the epoxy paint to them.
