The first thing you need to do before you go about installing vinyl flooring is prepare the floor for the installation. This is the most critical step in installing vinyl flooring because if you miss something here you will not be able to back and correct your mistake. Whether you are doing your kitchen or a commercial vinyl flooring install, the steps to get started are the same. Clean off and make sure that the floor where you are installing vinyl flooring does not have more then one layer of previous vinyl floor. You then need to level out the floor using an embosser to level out the floor. Once this step is done you will need to then wait from 15 minutes to two hours for the floor to dry. After it is dry you should be ready to go.
Installing Vinyl Flooring Step By Step
Now that you have prepared the area for the floor to be installed in you need to plan out exactly how you are going to install your floor. To do this I usually will take some arts and crafts paper and cut out an exact replica of the floor that the installation will go on. Once you have this go out to your garage or other large open area and lay out the new floor. This way you can plan not only where the seems will go but how the pattern will line up. Make a rough cut of the floor in the position you want it to go. It does not have to be one hundred percent completely accurate, and in fact I would leave about 1/4 inch or more around the edges to allow for adjustment and roll in the floor.
Next step in installing vinyl flooring is to bring in the pieces that you have outlined and diagramed and lay them out in your kitchen or wherever you happen to be installing the floor. This should give you a good idea of how big the vinyl surface is and what you will need to cut out to make it fit properly. I would then go though and trim it down to fit inside the room, but again not exactly because you want to leave some room for error when you actually lay the floor down.
Now you are ready to install your floor. Most of the vinyl flooring these days does not require any glue as you simply need to peel the back off and stick it down. Once you do this it is very simple to put the floor in, just make sure you have it lined up correctly. Place all your pieces down then smooth them out with a dry mop. After that, trim all the edges off the vinyl flooring and that should be it. Now you just need to add your molding and you are done with your setup, sit back and enjoy your new floor.
